Job Description Program overview: The Reuters Business Graduate programme currently targets graduates from Europe, Middle East, Africa and China. It is truly international, currently comprising graduates of over 20 different nationalities. The programme started in October 1997.

The BGP, predominantly a general business programme, and lasts for approximately two three years, provides managed, accelerated career development, which allows the participants to get a breadth and depth of experience early in their careers.

Typically, during the programme graduates would spend time in three different functions for periods ranging from six months to 12 months in two to three different countries or locations.
Program Objectives: The objective is to recruit and develop an international group of high calibre graduates, who demonstrate leadership potential and can make an impact in a fast-changing business world and facilitate change early in their careers. The graduates are expected to make a significant contribution at all stages in their career.

A key aim of the programme is for the graduates to gain an in-depth knowledge of the clients, markets and products which serve those markets; experience of dealing with clients in a number of different roles; exposure to and understanding of internet and e-commerce business; international and cultural diversity; experience of marketing, strategic planning and project management.

At the end of the programme, subject to individual aptitudes, graduates should have the skills and experience, including behavioural skills, to pursue a number of career paths, including operational front-line positions in account management, global accounts, marketing, product management, more strategic planning and project management roles.

The programme fosters a strong network between graduates within each new group and, increasingly, with those who joined previously.
What happens during the programme? Shortly after joining, all graduates come together for a 4- 5 week intensive training workshop. This provides an overview of the Company, aims to provide a good understanding of the principal markets Reuters serves and the products which support those markets, together with specific training for the first assignment in customer support.
At the end of the first assignment, the graduates will re-group for two/three weeks and work jointly on a project, when they will also receive some development and self-awareness training. The project requires them to research and benchmark externally, network internally, balance their priorities and work together as an effective team. At the end of the project they are required to make both a verbal and a written presentation to senior management.
Approximately 18 months is spent in customer-facing roles. This will normally include a 6 month period in Customer Support, which provides a rapid entry point for learning about the clients, markets and products. During this period, graduates study both for the internal certification programmes in markets and products and for a professional qualification, such as ISMA, SFD, ACI qualifications, industry recognised qualifications covering the fixed income, securities and derivatives, foreign exchange markets.
Following the period in customer support, the graduates continue in a front-line client-facing role for a further 12 months, typically in sales or account management. These roles span the full spectrum of Reuters activities in the financial markets from major clients requiring close partnerships to retail e-business models. This allows them to interact with clients from a different perspective, enhances influencing, negotiation and presentation skills.
The final stage of the programme, to complement the experience gained in the front-line, normally takes place in one of the central departments or divisions, in areas such as marketing, planning, product or project management although some graduates continue in direct client facing roles. These assignments would normally be in one of the larger centres, London, New York or Geneva.

Graduates receive regular feedback during the programme and are expected to achieve high standards throughout. On-the job training is interspersed with a number of courses, both operational, e.g. product training, and skills training, e.g. sales skills, behavioural skills. They attend a self-development workshop after 18 months. 
Desired Profile  Good interpersonal and communication skills, as well as consistent achievement of high academic results, fluency in English and ideally at least one more language would be an advantage
Proven record of web-literacy, understanding of technology and facility in using and understanding computers
MBA preferred
Curiosity to learn, innovation and creativity, good analytical skills, ability and willingness to operate internationally, to work effectively with people from many different cultures are essential
